Right now, Chicago Cubs rumors are flying left and right. But, one expert’s opinion may be more than just a rumor.

Folks, the stove is hot — and it is only going to get hotter. The Chicago Cubs have to be looking at making a move or two once the winter meetings are underway, and what better way to make the ultimate splash than to land arguably the biggest name amongst the 2018 free agency class?

More from Da Windy City

The Washington Nationals do not expect to have Bryce Harper back next season, according to owner Mark Lerner. This means what everybody thinks it means — Harper will be in a new city for the 2019 season and beyond.

Friday, on CBS Sports HQ, their live 24-hour news and highlights program, Jim Bowden of The Athletic and Sirius XM’s “Inside Pitch” had some predictions for both Harper and fellow stud Manny Machado.

Bowden said, of Machado, that he expects him to be wearing either a Philadelphia Phillies or New York Yankees uniform at the start of the 2019 MLB season.

Now, as for Harper?

Bowden narrowed it down to a trio of teams: The Los Angeles Dodgers, Yankees or Cubs.

That’s it. If Bowden is correct, then the Cubs have a legitimate shot at landing what could be a franchise-altering player for Jed Hoyer, Theo Epstein and company.

Never mind the fact that the Cubs would have to do some serious reconstruction after the signing, but we all know that. Chicago would need to make even more moves after the fact in order to make sense of the Harper inking.

It has always seemed like fate, for Harper to come to the Cubs. He and Kris Bryant have been close friends for quite some time, dating back to their younger years in Las Vegas.

Speaking of Las Vegas, the two of them were recently spotted out there with Bryant wearing a Golden Knights jersey. It could be nothing.

But, it could be something.

Next. Cubs must respond to Goldschmidt deal. dark

It is now only a matter of days until we could find out where Harper will play next season. Will it be the Cubs? The Yankees or Dodgers? We’ll be sure to keep you posted when the news ultimately breaks.
