Giancarlo Stanton Rumors: Potential trade packages for Cubs, White Sox
Chicago Cubs Trade Package
Couple of things to clear up here.
First, Stanton has a full no-trade clause. Stanton would probably waive this to go to a big city, considering that he declined a proposed trade to Saint Louis last offseason, citing the fact that it was not a big enough city.
Secondly, Stanton has a $20-million opt-out clause after 2020. While he’s very unlikely to opt out, the Cubs would be liable to pay the opt-out, therefore that was considered in formulating a deal.

In order for the Cubs to make room for Stanton in their outfield, they’d have to part with a current major league outfielder.
The best fit would be Kyle Schwarber. For one, Schwarber would free up left field for Stanton, who primarily played in left field all of last season.
Secondly, Schwarber is coming off of a down season, one in which he completely dropped off the face of the earth after a solid first half. While the upside for Schwarber remains, the Cubs are unlikely to hesitate much when it comes to dealing him.
The Yankees, who would be enticed to look for power in return for their loss of power, could definitely look at Schwarber as their top target in any trade with the Cubs. In addition to their long-term financial relief, that could help them sign at least two major free agents this offseason, the Yankees would get another young piece for the future that can make an impact on their major league team as soon as Opening Day.
Obviously the no trade clause and contractual restraints would need to be worked out before any deal is made, but the Cubs and Yankees could certainly connect for a “powerful” trade.
