Trade Number Three: Acquire Marcus Stroman from the Toronto Blue Jays

The White Sox need an established frontline starting pitcher. Marcus Stroman of the Toronto Blue Jays is the perfect fit.

Stroman, 27, is coming off of a horrible season. However, Stroman had four-consective good seasons prior to his 2018 flop, and is still a great option.

Under team control until 2021, Stroman is the perfect electric, high-energy ace that also serves as a great leader in a young clubhouse.

After missing the playoffs for the second season in a row, and experiencing a series of major departures in free agency, the Blue Jays are a solid candidate to rebuild. Stroman has been subject to trade rumors for about a year now, and could be on the move in a matter of weeks.

In return, the Blue Jays would get a mid-tier package. Stroman’s control and track record gives him a fair amount of value, but the level of his horrible 2018 kills off a good amount of what normally would be top-notch trade value.

First, the White Sox would send Luis Alexander Basabe. The White Sox highest-ranking non top-100 prospect, Basabe had a solid 2018 season, emerging as a potential future five tool player. However, as mentioned before, Basabe too will have a hard time finding a place on the White Sox in the future, and could be dangled in trade talks. Basabe makes perfect sense as the headliner here, as he has the perfect mix of upside and downside that would be appropriate in this deal.

The second piece would be Jimmy Lambert. Lambert is coming off of a strong season in Double-A, and could make the jump to the major leagues as soon as next summer. A top-30 prospect, Lambert has gotten zero attention, and probable only has a spot in the White Sox bullpen if he’s not traded by the time he’s major league ready.
