The Chicago Bears took down their division rivals, beating the Detroit Lions 34-22. Here are three key takeaways from the game.

The Chicago Bears took control early in their game against division rival Detroit Lions and really never looked back. In doing so, the Monsters of the Midway didn’t just maintain sole possession of first place but got a monkey (albeit a small one) off of their back.

The 34-22 victory was only the Bears second against the Lions in the last 11 overall games. Quick personal note, I was at the only Bears victory during that span. Come to think of it, I’ve been to two regular season Bears games and they’ve won both. Time to convince the family to move to Chicago.

But I digress. Back to the point, which is that the Bears started to reverse a somewhat ridiculous narrative that they can’t win within the division. Now there is no disputing that prior to yesterday, they had not fared well against their division rivals. They came into the game 1-9 against the Lions, 2-15 against the Green Bay Packers, and 2-7 against the Minnesota Vikings, whom they play next Sunday night in primetime.

However, that was under previous regimes — those debacles otherwise known as the Marc Trestman and John Fox eras. Side note — my petition to the Elias Sports Bureau to have those periods stricken from the record books has been unsuccessful to this point, but I’ll keep trying.

In any event, it’s silly to pretend as if the failure of previous head coaches and previous rosters would magically carryover to this staff and these players, who are now 1-1 against their rivals this season. But changing that silly narrative wasn’t the only takeaway from Sunday’s win. Here are three more.
