Chicago White Sox Rumors: Bryce Harper situation has us confused
By Ryan Heckman
Bank on Philadelphia?
The first piece of information we saw on Thursday came in the morning. MLB Network Insider and USA TODAY MLB columnist, Bob Nightengale, tweeted out a story that had the masses all up in chatter.
In his piece, Nightengale talked about the potential suitors for Harper — or the ones we thought would have been most likely.
First, he mentioned the Cubs. Obviously, unless the Cubs can shed some serious salary, there is no chance they can land Harper. Nightengale pointed out both Jason Heyward or Yu Darvish as guys to look out for in terms of who the Cubs would like to move.
Then, he went on and crossed the New York Yankees off the list. Why? The Yankees have a bigger need for Machado, Nightengale reminds us.
One by one, the potential landing spots were eliminated. The St. Louis Cardinals, Los Angeles Dodgers and San Francisco Giants are all clubs who won’t be able to land Harper, per Nightengale.
"“The Phillies are the most desperate team to land a star.”"
Nightengale points out that Philadelphia has the ability to give Harper upwards of $400 million and aren’t afraid of a contract like that. In his words, “You can bank on it.”
