Chicago Bears Rumors: Why Bruce Irvin is destined for Chicago
By Ryan Heckman
Reason no. 3: The Mack effect
Of course, the absolute top reason why the Bears are the best future home for Irvin is because of the connection he has with Khalil Mack. Like I mentioned, Irvin was anything but thrilled when his buddy was shipped off to Chicago. These two shared a strong bond for two seasons where Irvin put up career numbers.
Next to Mack in 2016 and 2017, Irvin posted a total of 15.0 sacks and 10 forced fumbles while playing in all 32 games. It’s unfortunate he hasn’t been able to see as much success as the primary pass rusher this season, but trying to get anything going on a defense that atrocious is quite the tall task. I’ll give him a pass there.
Like the day Irvin found out Mack was leaving town, Mack also took to Twitter once he found out about the impending release of his former teammate:

It might be pure speculation at this point to some, but a lot of folks out there have to believe that, if Irvin were to clear waivers, Mack will have a chat with his old pal about coming to Chicago. In fact, I would bet on it.
We still have a day before anything about Irvin’s status is official, but I think it’s safe to say the Bears would be one of the top teams in the conversation to land this guy.
