Reason no. 2: Bears have favorable roster

At his age, Irvin would likely look for an opportunity, not only to be able to play, but to win. The Bears have a roster which is currently put together in order to see big-time success within the next year or two.

But, with another guy who has a history of being a very good second-fiddle at the outside linebacker position, the Bears’ defense could be even better, thus launching their chances of immediate success even higher.

Let’s look at the roster this way:

  • Young, developing franchise quarterback who is taking strides in Year 2 — check
  • A strong backfield — check
  • Diverse weapons in the passing game — check
  • An already-established pass rush — check
  • A top-tier linebacking core — check
  • An above-average secondary — check

The Bears have a lot going for them at the moment. They have seen vast improvement year-over-year with Mitch Trubisky. The offense is putting points on the board and looks exciting, fresh and creative with how much Matt Nagy mixes things up. This offense can score points.

The defense, meanwhile, has been very good on most days, and are the highest-graded overall defense by Pro Football Focus right now. Irvin’s presence could only be a positive, and he has to see this roster as a favorable home.
