Chicago Bears Rumors: Why Bruce Irvin is destined for Chicago
By Ryan Heckman
The veteran pass rusher is on his way out of Oakland. The Chicago Bears seem the most logical destination.
Saturday, the NFL world was yet again rocked (probably not) by another move coming out of the state of California. The Oakland Raiders made an announcement that they would make another move, and once again, it could benefit the Chicago Bears.
The Raiders already made a deal with Chicago the week before the season started, when they sent perennial Pro Bowl pass rusher Khalil Mack to the Bears. If you remember correctly, a certain Raiders teammate tweeted his thoughts of disgust following the move.
The tweet sent out prior to this one was a bit more colorful. I’ll leave it at that.
Now, it is Bruce Irvin who is headed out of Oakland. The Raiders are set to release their leading pass rusher, just months after trading Mack. Oakland is last in the NFL with seven sacks on the season, three of which belong to Irvin.
The former first-round pick has seen his snaps completely washed away as the season winds on, registering only nine in the Raiders’ most recent loss to the San Francisco 49ers. The captain of the Raiders defense has been shelved, in a sense, and is now on his way out within the next 48 hours.
Irvin cannot be released until 4:00PM on Monday afternoon, when he will then hit waivers. Depending on how that shakes out, Irvin could be free to sign with any team of his choosing — and yes, the Bears make the most sense.
Why Chicago? I’ve got three good reasons I’ll fire your way.
