Chicago Bears: 3 things fans must be tired of seeing
Lost Leonard
Does anyone want to caption the photo above? I was thinking something like “raise your hand if you were completely lost on defense against the Patriots.” Has there been a bigger disappointment this season than Leonard Floyd?
For years, I’ve heard about this athletic freak of nature who can play the edge and drop in pass coverage. I’m still trying to find the player some have been talking about, but surely it can’t be Floyd. Earlier in the week, I made it clear the Bears need more from Floyd. With the exception of showing some flashes last season before an injury ended his season, he has been a disappointment.
Fans have lived with his lack of production as a pass rusher because he has been serviceable in coverage. That has not been the case this season. Frankly, he has looked bad in coverage.
Can anyone tell me what in the sweet fancy Moses Floyd was doing on that play above? I mean other than looking completely lost and leaving his undershorts on the four-yard line of course.
Granted, Floyd has dealt with his share of injuries in his young career, but we are getting close to using the “B” word. Yup, I’m talking “bust.” Maybe that’s too harsh. Maybe he turns a corner and makes this hot take look like garbage. I hope he does.
However, nothing I’ve seen so far in his young career gives me the confidence he will do that. I hope I’m wrong, but I have a feeling the Bears might be looking for another defensive end in next year’s NFL Draft.
Bottom Line
Now please don’t misunderstand the nature of this post. I am not down on the long-term (and even short-term) future of the Bears. In fact, it’s quite the opposite. I am very high on the Bears future and believe the arrow is pointing up. However, I think there are things that if addressed, will not only accelerate that ascension but help calm my nerves on Sundays.
