Chicago Bears: Bears-Patriots trip down misery lane
By Sam Fels
This somehow wasn’t the nadir of the Marc Trestman era. Which is saying something.
These Bears decided to one-up what the 2010 Bears had done, and better giving up 34 points in a half to give up 38 and 31 in the second quarter versus the 26 they had at Soldier Field. You may remember this as the game Lamarr Houston blew out his knee celebrating a sack after the defense had given up 51 in the 4th quarter. How can you sum up Marc Trestman better than that?
You’d think it couldn’t get any worse than this. Well, you haven’t followed the Bears very long, have you, buckaroo? Because it did. The Bears had a bye after this debacle, and then came out of that bye by giving up 55 to the Packers!
Let’s review: this team that got utterly embarrassed by the Patriots then had two weeks to recover, figure out how to save some face, and at least be representative against their supposed greatest rivals. They were somehow worse with two weeks to be better. The only way a team can quit any harder on its coach than this one did involves planks and walking into the ocean.
You may think this Sunday is some sort of litmus test. This is a time for the Bears to mark themselves out to a national audience. They can prove to themselves and us that they are for real this season.
You have been warned.
