The middle of the worst ever start to a season for the Bears came in Foxboro. Nothing good ever happens in Foxboro.

You can’t block this out. The Bears started the 1997 season 0-7, on their way to 4-12, which somehow didn’t lead to Dave Wannstedt’s firing. He was allowed to govern another 4-12 campaign the next year before finally getting the ax. Mercifully, the Wannstedt area came to an end for Bears fans.

The streak of death would come to an end on a Monday night in Miami, in a game only attended and watched by those looking to fill out community service hours. But that wouldn’t save the Bears in Foxboro a month before.

Sadly, this wasn’t even the Bill Parcells Patriots. You could understand a loss to Parcells, as he made something of a habit of making the Bears look stupid. No, this was the Pete Carroll Patriots, who were mostly a helpless circus that he smiled politely at.

This was another Rick Mirer special, 17-for-27 for 154 yards, or barely six yards per attempt. Throw in a couple interceptions, because much like pizza with oregano, you can’t have a Mirer game without two interceptions.  Oh, and a fumble as well. Meanwhile, Bledsoe went 24-for-37 for 301 yards and two touchdowns to show us all what a real quarterback looks like.
