The “And You Thought Joe West Was Bad” Award: The referees

First of all, you don’t penalize Leonard Floyd for his near perfect pump-handle suplex on Danny Amendola. You get on your knees and count to three and then call for the bell!

Seriously, the referees were simply awful on Sunday, and the officiating crews around the NFL continue to look like some kind of fantasy camp/field trip for a loose collection of some special interest group.

I don’t even know where to start. On the crippling overtime completion from Osweiler to Kenny Stills that tipped off Eddie JacksonMack was tackled in pursuit. On the last drive of the game, the Dolphins ran down the play-clock pas zero.

Shall we keep going? The offensive pass-interference on Trey Burton that chalked off the game-clinching touchdown was phantom call, as Burton never deviated from his path. Leonard Floyd got a roughing-the-passer penalty for running past Osweiler that led to a field goal. I could probably keep going.

Next. Bears: 3 burning questions going into Week 7. dark

The Bears certainly did enough shooting themselves in the foot and other extremities. But, if any one of these calls were correctly made, we probably see the Bears get out of Miami with a stolen win. It won’t be the last time NFL refs influence a game, because they barely know the rules that the league is seemingly making up on a weekly basis. Either way, it was tough to swallow.
