The 40-man roster

First, let’s break down the Cubs’ 40-man roster. In addition to the regular starters and bench players for 2018, you’ll notice that numerous prospects are on the roster due to late-season call-ups. It’s also worth noting that of the five Cubs currently on the disabled list, all five will remain under club control for 2019. Those players are pitchers Yu Darvish, Drew Smyly, Justin Hancock, and Brandon Morrow and outfield prospect Mark Zagunis. Also not listed on the 40-man roster is Addison Russell, currently serving a 40-game suspension for domestic violence.
