When Marc Trestman’s reign of terror/confusion was clearly coming to an end, he made it known to all of his media buddies that it was all Cutler’s fault, so he could possibly get himself another job (and it worked!).

So Cutler was benched for Jimmy Clausen in a game at home against the Lions, and Troy Aikman needed eight towels for all the slobbering he did over Clausen putting up 10 points. Did his throws pierce single-ply toilet paper? It didn’t matter to Trestman or Aikman.

After that, Bears fans got to sit through Matt Barkley and Brian Hoyer. Or Matt Hoyer and Brian Barkley. It doesn’t really matter because I’m not sure they weren’t the same guy. In John Fox’s desperation to not deal with Cutler ever again, he made him watch these two giblets drown on grass for half a season.

That’s how the Cutler Era ended, not with a bang but with Matt Barkley and his 14 interceptions in six games. If only it was a whimper.

If you wonder why Cutler has a constantly bemused look on his face, it was because he watched a coach try and replace him with this grab bag of incompetence. Jay acted like he knew better because he did.
