Sweet Jesus God. The Bears used the 12th overall pick in a draft that also saw Tim Couch and Akili Smith taken ahead of him in a year where the draft’s green room clearly was covered in lyme disease. McNown was about 4-foot-8, couldn’t or wouldn’t read the playbook, and when he got in any kind of trouble, his one move was to chuck it as far as he could and pray to the lord that Marcus Robinson would haul it in.

It happened like twice.

McNown’s pick basically saw the Bears forfeit two or three seasons, which were either spent hoping he would actually grow up or having to find the next guy. Also, the dude was way religious and yet dated a Playboy model. You figure that one out, because I certainly cannot. One of those was a factor in him not being able to read any safety, even if that safety had already fallen down laughing uncontrollably.

And if you think this is the last time the Bears had a too-short quarterback who would resort to throwing it as far as he could like it was elementary school flag football, buddy, just you wait….
