By Ryan Heckman
Heading into the bye week, the Chicago Bears are atop the NFC North.
You read that correctly. Just in case you are still in disbelief, the Chicago Bears are indeed 3-1 and are one of the surprise teams early on in this young NFL season.
New head coach Matt Nagy is learning on the fly, as is second year quarterback Mitch Trubisky. But, the two of them have continued to work towards something special, and it certainly helps to have the defense playing the way it does.

This week, the Bears are amidst an early bye week. Going into Week 6, they will travel to Miami to take on former offensive coordinators Adam Gase and Dowell Loggains and the Dolphins. For now, let us relish these moments which have fans gearing up for something positive, for once.
As I said, the defense has been phenomenal. It’s the second-ranked overall unit in the league, according to Pro Football Focus. The Bears lead the league in sacks and are second in interceptions. That sounds like a ripe recipe for immediate success.
It hasn’t come easy, at times, though. The Bears’ offense has struggled on occasion, but have been able to put up points early in three of their four games, giving them some confidence that they can try and repeat as the games wind on.
Through four weeks, there is a lot to talk about. But, let’s start by handing out some awards. Some may be pretty typical, while others have a bit of pizazz thrown in.
