Chicago Bears: Position-by-position grades through Week 4
By Ryan Heckman
Quarterback
To say that Mitch Trubisky has had an up-and-down season would be an understatement. The first couple of weeks saw him march his offense down the field for a touchdown on the opening drive. The more each game wore on, he struggled.
Trubisky has had a hard time sensing pressure. He’s been slow to make decisions. He has thrown into tight coverage, leading to turnovers.
That all changed against the Bucs, however.
Against Tampa Bay, Trubisky was making quick, efficient decisions. A lot of that had to do with the Buccaneers’ secondary being pretty banged up and featuring three rookies. But, many of those throws were also phenomenal tosses by Trubisky.
He’s made some great plays. He just put up a team-record six touchdown passes against the Bucs. That calls for some praise, without a doubt.
As the season goes on, though, I want to see him be able to run a successful offense against better teams. I want to see him string a few good games together, instead of what we saw early in the year.
As long as Nagy continues to tweak the offense toward his strengths, Trubisky should be just fine. Will he be great? That’s the big question. Will he be serviceable? I believe so.
