Chicago Cubs: Top 5 wins of the 2018 regular season

The Cubs are headed back to the postseason for the fourth consecutive year. Over the long 163 game season, these five wins stand out as the best.

It was a disappointing conclusion to the Chicago Cubs regular season on Monday, but looking at the big picture, the team is headed to the playoffs for their fourth straight year – a new franchise record.

While being able to add one more win to this list would be nice, let’s take a look back on the season that was. The Cubs’ 2018 campaign had a little bit of everything.

Javier Baez had by far the best season of his career, putting his name in the top echelon of National League MVP candidates. El Mago slashed .291/.327/.556 with 34 home runs and an NL-best 111 RBI.

The Cubs didn’t make a splash at the trade deadline, but their acquisition of Cole Hamels loomed large down the stretch. After offseason acquisitions Yu Darvish and Tyler Chatwood faltered and suffered from injuries, Hamels stepped in and posted a 2.36 ERA over his 12 starts with the club.

Suffering through multiple big-time injuries, the Cubs continued to find ways to win. Despite months of disabled list time accumulated by Darvish, Brandon Morrow, and Kris Bryant, the team found themselves leading the National League for most of the season.
