Chicago Bears: Post-bye week could easily see run to 6-2
By Ryan Heckman
Week 8 vs. New York Jets
I remember a day, not too long ago, when some folks were wishing the Bears could have snagged a quarterback like rookie Sam Darnold.
Oh, yeah. It was Week 1.
W-e-e-k O-n-e.
Darnold and his New York Jets went nuts on the Detroit Lions in a route, and everybody was talking about how impressive the former USC gunslinger looked.
Fast forward three weeks, and Darnold currently has a Pro Football Focus grade of 47.2. Meanwhile, Trubisky just made history after he tossed six touchdowns in a single game.
Get the picture? Slow your roll on Darnold.
This game should be an absolute feast for the Bears defense, especially if they are coming off a loss — which, I hope they’re not. Still, the case has to be made.
The Jets are just average when it comes to protecting their young quarterback. Darnold has been sacked 10 times through four games, and the Jets are currently the 18th-ranked pass blocking group in the NFL, per Pro Football Focus.
On the flip side, the Bears are currently the second-best team in the NFL when it comes to pressuring the quarterback — second to only the Los Angeles Rams.
Rookie quarterback. Average offensive line. Going up against an elite defense with a dominant pass rush.
This has “blowout” written all over it, folks.
