Chicago Bears: Post-bye week could easily see run to 6-2
By Ryan Heckman
Week 6 @ Miami Dolphins
Right out of the gate, the Bears will travel to Miami to take on the Dolphins along with a familiar face or two. Former offensive coordinator Adam Gase is now the head honcho for the Dolphins, and thus far, his offensive prowess has yet to fully flourish.
Bears fans will be quick to point out that Gase brought in another former Bears offensive coordinator this year in Dowell Loggains. I’m not so sure why Gase decided to make such a move, because Loggains has the Dolphins sitting right where the Bears were a year ago.
The Dolphins offense is currently ranked 30th in the NFL through four weeks, putting up just 286 yards of offense per game. They are also 30th in the NFL in first downs, with just 15 per game. Thanks to a die-hard fan, we get an even better overall look:
Ryan Tannehill is back, but that won’t matter much if the Dolphins can’t run the ball. Like the Bucs, the Dolphins haven’t gotten it going on the ground, which made it easy for the Bears defense to feast on Ryan Fitzpatrick and the Bucs passing game.
Miami is rushing for only 88.0 yards per game, good for 25th in the league. The Bears, meanwhile, are second-best in the NFL, allowing just 64.0 rushing yards per game (just 0.2 yards behind the first-place rush defense in Philadelphia).
Defensively, Miami has not been good, as they have the NFL’s 26th-ranked defense. Like Tampa Bay, I believe the Dolphins will be exposed by a Bears offense which suddenly looks to have some of the most explosive playmakers in the league.
The Dolphins will have a tough time keeping up with Tarik Cohen, Taylor Gabriel and Trey Burton in open space. Not to mention, Allen Robinson has yet to truly get it going and is due for a big game. Oh, and Jordan Howard has yet to have a huge game — can you imagine what happens when all of these guys are at their best?
The Dolphins should qualify as an “easy win” for the Bears, but like the Arizona Cardinals game, they certainly shouldn’t be taken lightly. If Chicago plays the way they should, the Bears will move to 4-1 with relative ease.
