After an amazing performance by the Chicago Bears on Sunday, the win can be attributed to one reason.

You have to wonder just where the Chicago Bears would have been on Sunday if not for Cody Parkey‘s two long-distance field goals. I kid, I kid! This win and game were all about Mitch Trubisky. And what a game it was.

Earlier this week, I mentioned that the Bear’s game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers was a must win for a variety of reasons. One of those was to prove that the Bears could win a game with their offense, especially when their defense has an off day.

Well, the defense kept doing their thing on Sunday with a dominant performance, but what was so encouraging for Bears fans was to see the offense completely take over a game.

I also wrote about Trubisky and why there were a number of reasons to be hopeful, but the primary reason was that he has shown in the past that when he’s comfortable with an offense, he can really sling it. With Matt Nagy dialing things back a bit this week, that’s exactly what happened on Sunday, and the results were something to marvel.

Let this stat line sink in for a second: Trubisky was 19-26 for 354 yards (13.6 average), 6 touchdowns, a 154.6 passer rating (98.9 QBR), and he tied for the team lead with 53 rushing yards. He is the only player in NFL history with 6 touchdowns, 350+ passing yards and 50+ rushing yards in a single game.

Trubisky was on point all afternoon and executed Nagy’s game plan flawlessly. He made a variety of throws and looked every bit the part of the No. 2 overall pick. His performance took a ton of pressure off the defense and ensured this contest was never close.

Prior to Sunday, there were many saying that the Bears were winning despite Mitch Trubisky. Those same people constantly reminded everyone they came in contact with that he has yet to put the team on his back and win a game for them. After Sunday, the Trubisky detractors lost their favorite argument, as he was unequivocally the reason the Bears won and won decisively.
