Chicago Bears: Week 4 awards, surprises and question marks
By Ryan Heckman
Game Ball: Mitch Trubisky
Going into this season, I had a lot of hope for Trubisky. Entering his second year, and first full season as a starter under a new head coach, I knew he could end up being much better. Matt Nagy brought a fresh offense which would breathe new life into this team.
The first three weeks, though, didn’t show me a whole lot of positives from Trubisky’s game. Many times, he looked hesitant in the pocket. He could not sense pressure well — and still has a tough time doing so. He made some bad, untimely throws.
In short, he wasn’t good through three weeks.
Well, there’s nothing like playing against the league-worst pass defense to get that confidence where it needs to be.
Trubisky shined in this one. He was out there tossing dimes all afternoon. Most of his balls were placed right on the money, thrown to the correct read and on-time as well. It was almost as if there was a different quarterback who took the field.
I’ll be honest. I wasn’t too keen on Trubisky after three weeks. I’m sure many Bears fans felt the same way. But, tossing five touchdowns in the first half and doing something no Bears quarterback has ever done? That should be enough to kickstart this kid’s confidence.
The game ball has to go to Trubisky. He was lights-out.
