Chicago Bulls second-year forward Lauri Markkanen is now out an extended period of time due to injury. How could this change the team going forward?

A lot of us Chicago Bulls fans are also fans of all Chicago sports. Most notably, many of us are also fans of the Chicago Bears. We know that the Bears have been fortunate enough to not suffer any major injuries to star players through the first few weeks of the season. But, for the Bulls, one of their stars has already gone down to injury and the regular season hasn’t even begun.

Last year, no. 7 overall pick Lauri Markkanen was a pleasant surprise. He looked like he could blossom into a true stud in this league. For Chicago, that would come at a great time, since they have been searching for lasting star-power for a while now.

Derrick Rose had his time, then injuries set in. Jimmy Butler looked to be that guy, but the front office spoiled that relationship. Now, Markkanen has the shot to be the star the Bulls have needed. However, that’s going to be put on a brief hold while he sits out a few weeks.

While it’s not as serious as something like Zach LaVine or Jabari Parker have suffered, Markkanen’s elbow is going to put him out for a significant amount of time. During that time, the Bulls could see some changes — and they may be pleasantly surprised by some of those changes.

What exactly could we see from the Bulls while Markkanen is out? Let’s dive in.
