Chicago Bulls: Potential surprises in the preseason

Put Portis on display
The play of Bobby Portis has been more impressive by the day, it has seemed. The former first-round pick out of Arkansas has really shown he not only belongs in the NBA, but deserves a big role as well.
He has impressed this front office enough to warrant talks of an extension, which have apparently been ongoing for quite a while now. The thing that worries me, though, is that they still have been unable to get a deal done and the preseason starts real soon.
One of the rumors floating around for a good amount of time has been whether or not Portis will end up being traded.
If the Bulls can’t get a deal done with Portis, for whatever reason, maybe they plan on trading him. Somewhat similar to the NFL preseason, the Bulls could play Portis a lot in order to put him on display for other teams; show just how much better he looks after another offseason of work.
If there is a team out there who is interested in Portis’ services, they would be wise to pay attention to what he does in the preseason. If the Bulls are truly still amidst a full-on rebuild (which I believe they are), trading Portis wouldn’t be the end of the world. Although, I would personally like to see him stay.
Why can’t they get a deal done? That’s the question. But, it’s apparent that nothing is happening and hasn’t been close if it has taken this long. Putting Portis on display for a potential trade suitor could be something we see during the exhibitions.
