Chicago Bears: 3 looming decisions heading into Week 3
By Ryan Heckman
Question No. 2: Does Nagy make change to boost run game?
Monday night, Jordan Howard didn’t have his biggest game. But, that doesn’t mean he was less effective than he normally is. If you saw Howard go off-tackle, he typically gained more yards than he did between the tackles against the Seahawks.
I wonder why?
The problem for the run game on Monday night was largely due to the inability of veteran guard Eric Kush to get any leverage in opening up holes for his running backs. Kush has been the Bears’ firm starter at left guard since the opening of training camp this year, but many have questioned Nagy on whether or not he would finally switch it up.
The difference between those questions to Nagy, though, is that most have wanted to see a different change. What some fans have wanted is for Nagy to insert rookie James Daniels at the center position, sliding Cody Whitehair over to left guard.
In this instance, I think the decision facing Nagy — assuming he sees on tape what we saw on Monday night — is whether or not to replace Kush with Daniels. While the rookie might not be 100 percent ready, according to the coaching staff, I think you at least need to see if Daniels can get a better push in the run game against the Cardinals this weekend.
