Chicago Bears: 5 biggest impacts of Khalil Mack deal
In a move that has sent shockwaves across the NFL, the Chicago Bears have traded for Khalil Mack. Here’s how his addition impacts this team.
On Friday night, Chicago Bears fans went to bed dreaming of the possibility — albeit a seemingly small one at the time — that Oakland Raiders star linebacker Khalil Mack would end up a Bear this weekend. Well, when those same fans woke up or stumbled in from a night out on the town, they were met with some wonderful news.
That’s because overnight, Ryan Pace, one of the most aggressive general managers this offseason, added another feather to his cap. Early Saturday morning, news began to spread that the Bears had not only emerged as the favorite to land Mack but had a trade in place with the Raiders.
As the day went on, we learned the deal included the Bears sending two future first-round picks to Oakland in exchange for the 2016 Defensive Player of the Year and all-world edge rusher. The response was almost entirely positive from fans and pundits, with the exception of a few completely misguided individuals who offered their “hot takes” likely to simply be contrarian.
I say that because objectively, there is no way someone could look at the trade and come away with any other conclusion than that this is a win for the Bears.
The Bears biggest need on the team, and one preventing their defense from being considered elite was edge rusher. Then they go out and land the very best player at that position.
Just how great an impact he will have remains to be seen, but we detail the ways in which Mack will have an effect on his new team.
