Cornerback Kevin Toliver

Undrafted free agent corner Kevin Toliver has sure taken a turn since the beginning of training camp. Coming out of LSU, he was a kid who had the potential to be an NFL quality backup. Most experts predicted he would be drafted between Round 4 and Round 7.

Toliver showed out on his first day of training camp and proved he was a valuable pickup for the Bears. He picked off two passes on that very first day and followed it up with another interception on Day 2 of camp.

Since then, he’s been all over the place. He has proven that game action is a whole lot different for him than practice. Some players are able to put the same type of product on the field which they show in practice — for Toliver, that hasn’t been the case.

Toliver has been beaten badly on several occasions throughout the preseason and, at this point, he is going to have to beat out guys like Michael Joseph and Doran Grant by making himself valuable on special teams. Right now, he might end up being third out of those three guys.

With a killer performance against the Bills, Toliver might end up as a practice squad candidate. He’s going to have a hard time making the roster, but with the competition at cornerback as thick as it is, you never know.
