With the Bears’ pass rush situation in flux — and that’s putting it nicely — they could use another body or two. If they do not decide to execute a trade, the Bears could easily bring in veteran outside linebacker Lamarr Houston.

Last season, Houston appeared in five games for the Bears, notching 4.0 sacks. He spent time off and on with the team from 2014 to 2017, totaling 13.0 sacks while often dealing with injuries.

Houston makes a lot of sense for the Bears. We know when healthy that he can rush the passer. He’s proven it. He may not be an every-down starter, but getting him into the rotation would be advantageous.

light. Must Read. Can Matt Nagy help destroy the preseason?

Houston knows Vic Fangio’s system. He’s familiar. This is another reason why he makes a lot of sense. Right now, the Bears are primarily searching between Isaiah Irving, Kasim Edebali, Sam Acho and Kylie Fitts while also waiting for Aaron Lynch to get healthy.

In my opinion, Houston would be better than most of those names and he would come cheap. Bringing him in at the last minute wouldn’t be a negative, either, since he would likely be able to recall most of the playbook at a moment’s notice.
