Chicago Bears: Potential surprise cuts and why they could happen
By Ryan Heckman
Safety Deiondre’ Hall
Boy, has the Bears’ depth at safety been a rollercoaster this offseason. At first, it was Deon Bush who looked outstanding in OTA’s. He looked so good that Fangio called him out specifically following that week. Bush even stuck out at the start of training camp.
Then, as the preseason began, both Deiondre’ Hall and DeAndre Houston-Carson had some shining moments early on. It seemed as though the Bears had a flurry of depth at the position.
Then, Houston-Carson broke his arm and Hall was slapped with a one-game suspension due to violating the league’s policy on substance abuse.
With Hall’s inconsistent play and Week 1 suspension, my best guess is that he ultimately gets cut. The question then becomes, how do the Bears plan to fill the void left at safety? The most likely answer would be to wait until other teams have made their cuts and hope for another safety to be let loose whom could fill the spot.
Hall has not lived up to be much of anything in terms of a depth piece, and seeing him completely blow coverage and miss tackles this preseason has cemented the fact that I just don’t see him on the final 53-man roster.
