Chicago Bears: Potential surprise cuts and why they could happen
By Ryan Heckman
Outside Linebacker Aaron Lynch
One of the more underrated offseason signings for the Bears was reuniting former San Francisco 49ers outside linebacker Aaron Lynch with defensive coordinator Vic Fangio. Lynch had seen some production within his first two years under Fangio but had since been buried on the 49ers’ depth chart.
Almost immediately upon arriving to Chicago, Lynch started dealing with injuries. It seems as though he has never been fully healthy since signing with the Bears, and thus has not seen the field much at all — in both practice and preseason action.
The play of fellow outside linebackers Kylie Fitts and Isaiah Irving, along with even Kasim Edebali at times, has often made me wonder if the Bears would be better off cutting ties with Lynch. When it is all said and done, that is exactly what could end up happening.
Irving has specifically shown drastic improvement over the last month and looks strong, fast and able to win one-on-one battles consistently. Fitts needs a little more work and hasn’t been as consistent, but the potential is certainly there.
If Lynch can’t seem to stay healthy now, I highly doubt he’ll be able to handle the grueling length of a 16-game NFL schedule at this point. It would be more surprising to see him make the team at this point.
