The Chicago Bears are rapidly approaching the point where the roster must be cut down to 53 players. Some potential surprise cuts may be on the horizon.

Over the weekend, the Chicago Bears came out with something to prove against the Kansas City Chiefs. In their fourth preseason contest, the Bears saw most of their starters rest for the day — a decision by head coach Matt Nagy which came with plenty of criticism and questioning.

In the end, the Bears’ second and third string players came to play and wound up defeating the Chiefs, while most of Kansas City’s starters played into the second half.

There was a whole lot to like about this game. For starters (no pun intended), it proved Nagy’s decision to be correct. Nagy told the media that his decision was based off of having their best week of practice yet. Apparently, the backups had their best week as well, because it showed.

Now, comes the tough part for Nagy and his staff. The Bears already announced they released veteran guard Earl Watford in a move that surprised some. The cuts will continue as the team works its way down to the 53-man roster prior to the September 1 deadline.

With these cuts, I’m sure we will be surprised with some. Every year sees some good players get cut for various reasons, and the Bears are no different. Here are a few players I could see getting released prior the deadline, some of which may surprise you.
