Bold Prediction No. 1

Mitch Trubisky finishes 2018 with more yards and touchdowns than Jared Goff in 2017

Everyone and their mother wants to compare this year’s Bears team to last year’s Los Angeles Rams, and that’s totally fine. I understand how easy it is to do that, but when looking at just the quarterback position, I think the Bears have it even better than the Rams.

Last year, Jared Goff threw for 3,804 yards and 28 touchdowns. It was a quite the leap from his rookie campaign where he suffered under the likes of Jeff Fisher‘s offense. Like Goff, Trubisky is going from one old school coach in John Fox, to a younger, more intuitive offensive-minded coach in Matt Nagy.

Goff certainly benefited from having the league MVP Todd Gurley in his back field, though. Not to take much away from Goff, but this is more adding to the arsenal of Trubisky. Like Goff, Trubisky also has a top-5 back in Jordan Howard. Don’t believe me? Check the 2017 rushing totals. It simply isn’t talked about enough, because Howard isn’t the flashy type.

Trubisky has the back field. He also has the weapons with guys like Allen Robinson, Anthony Miller, Taylor Gabriel, Trey Burton and Adam Shaheen. Goff had Robert Woods, Sammy Watkins and Cooper Kupp a year ago. The tight end position wasn’t as dynamic as they would have liked, and the Bears certainly have a leg up in that department.

I firmly believe Robinson is a better wideout than any of the guys the Rams had last year. Not only that, but I think Miller is going to be twice the player Kupp was as a rookie. Kupp had some drop issues at one point and isn’t anywhere close to as athletic or electric as Miller.

So, Trubisky has better weapons in the passing game and also has a top-5 back in Howard. Oh, and by the way, he also has Tarik Cohen, who will be a menace to try and get to in the open field. All together, Trubisky has more than enough to work with in 2018.

4,000 yards and 30 touchdowns should be in the bag for Trubisky in 2018. So many people will read this and laugh. I’ll just wait until after Week 17 to do my share of laughing.
