Chicago Bears 53-Man Roster Projection 3.0: Who makes the cut?
By Ryan Heckman
Tight Ends
Starter: Trey Burton
All I can say is, I am going to be owning a lot of Burton in fantasy leagues this year. The Broncos game gave us just a little taste of what we could see throughout the regular season, and Burton has Trubisky’s attention on every passing down. It has looked like Burton is the go-to guy, so to speak, thus far.
Backup: Adam Shaheen
Shaheen will be a large part of the offense as well. Don’t think it will be just Burton having all the fun. Two-tight-end sets are something Nagy will run often, and the fact that Shaheen and Burton are opposite in stature should present some fun mismatches for the defense. Look for Shaheen to see his fair share of red zone targets, that’s for certain.
Third and Fourth String: Dion Sims, Ben Braunecker
Sims is the blocking tight end here. We never have to worry about him streaking across the middle or being involved in a trick play — at least that’s what I would assume. Braunecker has had a strong camp and caught the game-winning touchdown against the Broncos. I think he’s going to beat out Daniel Brown and that the Bears keep four tight ends.
Wide Receivers
Starters: Allen Robinson, Taylor Gabriel/Anthony Miller
These two are obvious answers, at least for now. Anthony Miller is right behind Gabriel and could prove to be the better option at the no. 2 spot. In fact, I believe he will. For now, it’s Robinson and Gabriel.
Others: Josh Bellamy, Kevin White, Javon Wims
Previously, I had left White off the roster. I just have a feeling that after seeing him catch a couple of balls and knowing he has a strong bond with Trubisky, he makes this team. Bellamy offers special teams experience, and has actually had a pretty solid preseason thus far on offense. Wims has shown flashes already and will be fun to see develop over time.
