The Chicago Bears faced off against the Denver Broncos on Saturday night in Colorado. Here are three players that surprised me with their performances in the team’s third preseason game.

The Chicago Bears were in The Mile High City this week–practicing with the Denver Broncos on Wednesday and Thursday, and playing against them on Saturday night. The team has gone 0-2 in the preseason so far, but this game was a chance for the starters to get a lot more playing time and show that they’re progressing.

While head coach Matt Nagy didn’t give the defensive starters much playing time, the offensive starters played almost the entire first half. This gave quarterback Mitch Trubisky some crucial reps that could help him gel with the new offensive system the coaching staff installed.

Fresh off the end of his contract holdout, Bears first round pick Roquan Smith wouldn’t suit up for Saturday’s game. This wasn’t a huge surprise, Nagy wouldn’t comment on Smith’s status during the week, but he has all of three practices with the team under his belt. Next week’s preseason game against the Kansas City Chiefs will likely be Smith’s debut.

The Bears starters may have been a bit disappointing so in their previous preseason efforts, but it’s tough to tell if some of the team’s struggles will carry over to the regular season. A lot of the starters moved in the right direction against the Broncos. Here are three players that surprised me with their performances on Saturday.
