Who makes the cut at wideout?

The most polarizing player in all of Bears training camp this summer has been fourth-year wide receiver Kevin White. Obviously, the excitement has revolved around rookie Anthony Miller and second-year running back Tarik Cohen. But, White’s name has been mentioned more than most — and for good reason.

Right now, White’s status is a bit of a mystery. Judging from the last depth chart released by the Bears, he’s a lock. However, most don’t believe that. I understand there are lots of fans out there rooting for him, so it’s a touchy subject any time you bring his name up.

The fact of the matter is, he’s been wildly inconsistent throughout camp; not to mention, last week against the Cincinnati Bengals, Mitch Trubisky tossed a perfect bomb that hit him right where it needed to be and he flat-out dropped it.

Tanner Gentry, a second-year kid, has made some phenomenal plays throughout camp and has made a little noise in the preseason as well. Most believe Bennie Fowler is out, and so is Marlon Brown.

Rookie seventh-round pick Javon Wims has looked great on all but just a select couple of plays, so his spot appears safe. Obviously, you’re looking at Allen Robinson, Taylor Gabriel and Anthony Miller making the team. Josh Bellamy appears safe after a strong camp and preseason, also due to his value on special teams.

It might end up coming down to White and Gentry, so I’m watching both of these guys closely Saturday night. If White has another lackluster performance, his name will drop on the depth chart. There isn’t any way that doesn’t happen if he can’t get it together.
