Chicago Bears: 3 bold predictions for Roquan Smith
With Roquan Smith finally on board with the Chicago Bears, we make a few bold predictions.
The Chicago Bears’ long, national nightmare is over. Although the ink may not yet be dry, the Bears fully expect Roquan Smith to end his holdout and sign his rookie contract. According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the deal is worth a reported $18 million over four years, with $11 million in signing bonuses.
The deal ends a holdout that lasted 29 days and saw Smith miss the entirety of training camp. While some may say it’s no big deal, there are clearly other Bears fans who disagree. No doubt this situation has been a polarizing one for those who root for the blue and orange.
Some will welcome him back with open arms, while others will stay disgruntled. Still, there will be many fans who will take a wait and see approach. For them, if Smith does well, all will be forgotten, but if he struggles, they will latch on to his holdout as the reason why.
Admittedly, I was critical of Smith and had previously highlighted his need to inject some sanity into the negotiations process and end the holdout. Yet, I am also realistic enough to understand this is a business at the end of the day, and Smith needed to do his best to protect his interests.
But all of that is over now, and fans can look forward to seeing Smith in uniform getting ready for the upcoming season. With that in mind, we have a few bold predictions for what to expect out of Smith this year.
