Chicago Bears: 3 reasons adding Khalil Mack must happen
The Chicago Bears should be aggressive in their pursuit of Khalil Mack.
The Chicago Bears absolutely, unequivocally, must aggressively pursue Oakland Raiders star, Khalil Mack. Rarely does the opportunity present itself to acquire a player with his level of talent. Elite players, especially at such a valued position, simply are not available in their prime.
That’s what made the news that the Raiders might be open to dealing him so interesting. As you probably know by now, Mack has yet to report to training camp over dissatisfaction with his current contract situation. Mack believes he is undervalued relative to what he is currently being paid and wants a new deal.
Despite still being under contract, Mack is dead-set on getting a new deal. He currently stands to make just under $14 million this year, before he is set to become an unrestricted free agent next season. At that time, he is expected to become one of the highest — if not the highest — defensive player in the game.
However, Mack wants that financial payday today — not next year. The Raiders, at least at this time, appear unwilling to give it to him, resulting in Mack holding out of camp. Combine that with the apparent “cold shoulder” he has been getting from new coach Jon Gruden, and the trade rumors have only intensified.
Which brings us to the present day and the crossroad of need and opportunity, where the Bears currently reside. For the reasons outlined below, it’s imperative that the Bears make a deal for him now and add him for this season.
