Chicago Bears: Three Positives of Roquan Smith’s signing
Positive Number Three: Smith will play against the Packers in Week One
Let’s be honest. The real main concern throughout the entire holdout was that Smith wouldn’t be available to play on Week 1.
No more need to worry. With Smith signed and reporting to the Bears, he should be on the field for the Bears Regular Season opener.
And that opening week game happens to be against who? Oh yeah, the Green Bay Packers.
On Sunday Night Football. On National Television. For perhaps the Bears’ most-hyped opening game in recent memory.
It’s virtually a guarantee that pending injury, the Bears rookie linebacker will be starting against the Packers. Anything to gain an edge over the bitter rival is big, but the Bears officially gaining a major piece of their defense is a huge boost ahead of next month’s primetime tilt.
Smith not playing in Week 1, especially against the Packers, certainly would not have sat well with the Bears players and fans. Now that Smith is signed and with the team, there’s no doubt that we’ll see number 58 make his debut that Sunday night.
Now that Smith is signed, the Bears (and their fans) will be able to completely shift their focus to Week 1 in Green Bay. With their whole squad intact (fingers crossed), the Bears should have a real shot at starting out 1-0.
I don’t think it’s ever felt better to say — welcome to Chicago, Roquan Smith.
