With less than fifty games to play, the Chicago Cubs hold the National League’s best record at 67-49. However, with just a two-and-a-half game lead in the Central, the Cubs still have work left to do.

For the fourth-consecutive season, the Chicago Cubs look destined for a playoff berth.

For the third-consecutive season, it looks like that berth will be as a result of a National League Central division title.

That is if a current two-and-a-half game lead over the second-place Milwaukee Brewers holds up.

With 46 games remaining after Sunday, the Cubs have work left to do. In order to make their current division lead hold up, the Cubs are going to need to win some series down the stretch.

Especially in the competitive NL Central, a division in which four out of five teams are competing for a playoff berth. The Cubs are the clear favorite of the group but are by no means comfortably in a playoff spot.

Of the Cubs’ remaining 46 games, 27 will be against NL Central division foes. In order to pull away from trailing teams, the Cubs will need to come through in big games against division opponents.

Let’s take a look at what series will be the most crucial for the Cubs during the next month-and-a-half.
