Can Javon Wims make the Bears’ 53-man roster?

The question above regarding wide receiver Javon Wims is an interesting one for Bears’ fans. As a seventh-round pick Wims has the deck stacked against him, but with each preseason rep he can get better and state his case for inclusion on the Bears’ roster.

After a slightly above average college career Wims is looking to prove that he is ready for the NFL. Wims abilities are better suited for the professional game and with the Bears, he can flourish.

Bears’ backup quarterbacks did what they could to make Wims the preferred target during the Hall of Fame game. While watching Wims collect 88 yards against second and third team defensive players, fans could not help but wonder how good can he be. The pleas for the Bears to elevate Wims in the depth chart grew loud.

The Bears’ coaching staff must see what all Wims can do in order to make a determination on whether or not he will earn a roster spot. Over the next two games, the Bears will try him with the special teams. Wims stands a better chance to stick with the Bears if he can flash the potential of being a solid special teams contributor.

Ultimately, the Bears will either keep Wims at the start of the season or risk losing him altogether. Other teams will be looking to fill their rosters with young, cost-efficient talent. As of now, Wims belongs in that category.
