The Chicago Cubs are off to a hot start in August, owning the best record in the National League at 66-47. However, the Cubs lead the Milwaukee Brewers by just 2.5 games.

The Chicago Cubs have come a long way.

After a sluggish April, and an up-and-down division race with the Milwaukee Brewers spanning most of the first half, the Cubs look to maybe be pulling away as we sit in the middle of August.

The Cubs two deadline acquisitions, Cole Hamels, and Jesse Chavez have hit the ground running in their debut month on the North Side.

Javier Baez has stayed hot, Anthony Rizzo has caught fire and the Cubs have won their way to the National Leagues best record.

However, the Cubs are by no means perfect.

Kris Bryant and Yu Darvish are still on the disabled list with no clear timetable as to when either will return.

Jon Lester has had an atrocious second-half. Jose Quintana and Kyle Hendricks haven’t exactly improved.

Needless to say, the Cubs still have a ton of work to do. Now that the trade deadline has passed, the Cubs will need to look within their organization when it comes to improvements on the field.

Some of these improvements will be well-received by Cubs fans. Others, not so much.

Let’s see what the Cubs must do in order to finish the season atop the National League Central.
