Trade Package Number One:

If you’re getting flashbacks to the Jay Cutler trade, you should. This trade package is eerily similar.

We already talked about what the Bears would be getting in Donald. Donald would vault an already-strong Bears defense to near the top of the league on paper.

Here’s the breakdown of why the Rams get what they get.

  • The only thing keeping the deal from being three first-rounders is the fact that Donald is still holding out, and likely won’t play without a long-term deal no matter what team he’s with
  • The Bears 2019 second-rounder belongs to the Patriots (Bears trade up for Anthony Miller), therefore they would give up their 2020 second round pick
  • The Bears and Rams are both in similar positions, therefore the Bears wouldn’t give up any players of value in a deal. The only reason why Donald would be traded is because of a contract issue: not because the Rams are selling

The Bears would be giving up a whole lot in this deal. However it’d be hard to find a defensive player in the entire league that can make the impact that Donald would. Players like Donald aren’t available that often, so the Rams would certainly ask for a haul in return.
