Chicago Bears Rumors: Potential trade packages for Khalil Mack
By Ryan Heckman
Where Mack fits
As we saw in the Bears’ first preseason action on Thursday night, they are incredibly thin at outside linebacker. Starters such as Leonard Floyd and Sam Acho did not take the field, of course, and veteran Aaron Lynch was also not out there due to dealing with an injury.
So, the Bears got great looks out of two particular players. Rookie sixth-round pick Kylie Fitts and 24-year-old Isaiah Irving took center stage as the two pass rushers which stood out.
Not to knock Fitts or Irving, because they both certainly looked better than we would have expected as fans, but let’s be honest — Mack is on a different level. Mack is a guy who is arguably the best pass rusher in all of football.
Having experience both with his hand in the dirt and rushing the passer from a standing position, Mack would come in and immediately fill out the spot opposite of Floyd. With Mack, Floyd and Akiem Hicks coming after the quarterback, this defense goes from a Top-10 unit in 2017 to potentially a Top-5 unit in 2018.
There really isn’t a team he doesn’t fit on, but for the sake of this argument, he would slot in at outside linebacker for the Bears.
