Chicago Bears Rumors: Potential trade packages for Earl Thomas
By Ryan Heckman
Trade Package No. 1
The whole Thomas saga has been going on for quite some time now. Whether it was the speculation of Thomas wanting to be a member of the Dallas Cowboys or the growing anticipation that he was unhappy in Seattle, it felt like this situation was only a matter of time.
Back before this year’s NFL Draft, it was made known that if the Seahawks were going to trade Thomas, it would require a first-round pick. I see no reason why they would have budged since then.
Now, what the Seahawks want and what they could get are two very different things. Because the season is so close to beginning, the likelihood of Seattle having to settle for something less than a first-rounder is much greater. Would the Bears give up a first-round draft pick for Thomas?
Short answer: Nope.
Ryan Pace has done a great job of keeping his higher draft picks over the last couple of years, and when it came down to it, he truly ended up landing MItch Trubisky by giving up a future third-round pick. Pace has been known to make some deals, but he typically has found a way to recoup picks. How would he justify the means to recoup a first-rounder for an almost-30-year-old safety?
Let’s move on to package number two.
