Chicago Cubs: 5 questions demanding answers, and quickly
By Ryan Heckman
1. Which Jason Heyward appears next?
Jason Heyward has been quite the funny player to watch this year. He began his season hitting a respectable .283 in May. In June, he slashed .327/.364/.510 for what would be his best month of the season by far. Fans thought a new Heyward had appeared and was ready to be yet another key offensive weapon.

Fast forward, and as we begin August, Heyward is coming off a completely different month of July in comparison to his tear in June. July saw Heyward hit just .238 and his slugging percentage suffered immensely, going down nearly 200 points.
In June, Heyward knocked 13 extra base hits, 10 of which were doubles. A month later, he came up with just four — two doubles and two home runs.
Which Heyward will we see in August? Better yet, which Heyward will we see come playoff time? It goes without saying that his leadership in the clubhouse cannot be explained by a box score. Obviously, he is someone the young guys look to and learn from. Defensively, he is also outstanding. So, his offensive abilities are not the only thing that define him as a player.
But, with other guys struggling and/or not healthy, Heyward’s bat had certainly helped propel the Cubs to a few more victories had he not hit the ball the way he did in June.
