Chicago Cubs: Potential Trade Packages for Bryce Harper
Where Harper Fits:
Where does Bryce Harper fit?
I think the better question would be “Where doesn’t Bryce Harper fit?”
The addition of Harper would make the Cubs the clear World Series favorite out of the National League.
We’ll get the bad out of the way first. Harper’s 2018 struggles have been well-chronicled: .220 AVG, 25 home runs, 0.4 WAR.
Regardless of his rough season, the former MVP is one of the most established hitters in all of baseball.
Harper would fit right in the middle of the Cubs order, between Kris Bryant and Javier Baez, creating an absolutely deadly middle of the lineup for the Cubs.
Defensively, Harper would play in right field. Jason Heyward would take over center, while whoever isn’t dealt of the Kyle Schwarber, Ian Happ and Albert Almora group would play left field.
Off the field, Harper would be the new face of Chicago Cubs baseball. Alongside Bryant and Anthony Rizzo, the Cubs would easily have the most marketable group of superstars in recent Chicago sports memory.
All things considered, a Harper addition, regardless of his performance this season, would push the Cubs over the top both on and off the field. Harper’s power would serve the Cubs streaky offense well, while his superstar aura would bring even more energy to one of baseball’s most energetic ballparks.
As has been constant throughout this deadline season, acquiring Harper won’t be cheap, even considering the fact that he’s a rental.
Let’s take a look at just how much the Cubs will need to surrender in order to bring Bryce to the North Side (prematurely).
