Chicago Cubs Rumors: 3 risky trade deadline moves
Risky Move Number Three: Trade for James Shields
In years past, the Cubs and White Sox making a trade would have been unheard of.
That all changed last year, when the Cubs and White Sox executed the biggest blockbuster deal of the deadline season.
This time around, neither the Cubs nor the White Sox have the kind of assets to make a move of the same caliber.
However, the White Sox, still in the state of rebuilding, could have players to fill the Cubs needs, specifically in the rotation.
James Shields is the most-likely of the White Sox to be dealt. The 36-year old is 4-12 on the season, but has an ERA of 4.53, and could be the innings-eater that the Cubs need.
Additionally, it wouldn’t take much for the Cubs to get Shields. The White Sox would have to take most of Shields’ large salary for a deal to happen, and once the White Sox are willing to do that, it would only take one lower-level prospect to finish a deal.
The Cubs and Sox have done it before, and it makes perfect sense for them to team up for a deal once again.
It all goes down on Tuesday at 4 PM, when the trade deadline officially passes.
