The MLB non-waiver trade deadline is coming up on Tuesday, July 31st. Here are three risky moves the Chicago Cubs can make to gear up for the coming months

With just one day before the trade deadline, the Chicago Cubs have already made a couple of moves.

The first was to fortify the bullpen, acquiring reliever Jesse Chavez from the Texas Rangers. Since the deal, Chavez has thrown eight shutout innings in five appearances for the Cubs.

The Cubs and Rangers weren’t done there however, as the Rangers sent former All-Star pitcher Cole Hamels to the Cubs in exchange for minor-league pitcher Rollie Lacy and a player-to-be-named-later.

Hamels will make his Cubs debut on Wednesday, as the Cubs got their veteran starter to round out a potential playoff four-man rotation.

While the Cubs have made some moves, other National League Contenders have made their fair share of moves as well.

The Dodgers, who the Cubs lost to in last years National League Championship Series, made the biggest move thus far, acquiring Orioles star shortstop Manny Machado.

The Diamondbacks, Phillies and Rockies all made moves to improve their rosters for the final playoff push in the past few days as well.

Most notably, the Cubs inter-division rival Milwaukee Brewers made additions to both their bullpen and lineup, gearing up for what should be a tight pennant race.

Building a championship team doesn’t come without risks. The Cubs have what looks to be a World Series contending team, but work needs to be done.

Here are three risks that the Cubs could take in order to strengthen their World Series push.
