Chicago Bears Training Camp: Assessing the first unofficial depth chart
Linebackers
Outside LInebacker: Sam Acho, Aaron Lynch, Kylie Fitts, Elijah Norris
- At this moment, Sam Acho is starting. Yes, you read that right. I like Acho. He does little things that stats can’t measure. Having said that, he’s not who you want starting 16 games. Lynch’s hamstring needs to get better. Also, Fitts showed a lot of effort and pass-rushing ability in training camp, so far. However, he is now hurt with an arm injury. The weakest position on the team is now getting even thinner. It might be time to bring back Lamarr Houston.
Inside Linebacker: Danny Trevathan, John Timu, Jonathan Anderson, Ro’Derrick Hoskins
- The impression I’ve gotten from the beat reporters is that Trevathan’s hamstring is not serious, and they are just holding him out for precautionary purposes. Behind Trevathan, Timu is probably the most reliable between Anderson and Hoskins. They would have to show a lot in training camp to beat out Timu.
Inside Linebacker: Nick Kwiatkoski, Roquan Smith, Joel Iyiegbuniwe, Josh Woods
- Until Smith’s contract is signed, Kwiatkoski is starting. You always want depth players that you are comfortable with starting and that fits Kwiatkoski. Even if Trevathan and Smith are both out there week one, Kwiatkoski could see time in certain coverage packages or blitz packages. Iyieguniewe has a banged up shoulder right now, but he would likely slide to be one of the backup linebackers, rather than winding up on the practice squad.
Outside LInebacker: Leonard Floyd, Isaiah Irving, Kasim Edebali, Andrew Trumbetti
- Floyd needs to stay healthy and take the leap into double-digit sack production. It’s time for him to breakout. The reason his health is paramount is because of the depth behind Floyd. You really don’t want Irving or Edebali starting a regular season game, but would rather have them in situationally to give Floyd a breather.
