Chicago Bears Training Camp: 5 recent standout players
By Ryan Heckman
Linebacker Kylie Fitts
On offense, the Bears have been trying a lot of players at a lot of different positions. The new scheme under Matt Nagy is going to be a lot of fun, and involve plenty of players. Defensively, though, most positions should appear to be set.
However, the pass rush might be a problem. Like I said earlier, Lynch can’t stay healthy and is working his way back from a hamstring issue. This opens the door for guys like Irving, Norris, Sam Acho and this guy — Kylie Fitts.
The rookie sixth-round pick out of Utah has everything you want in a prototypical pass rusher, and it has shown recently in camp. During individual drills, he has consistently beat his man and looks incredibly quick.
Fitts’ hands have also stuck out to me. His bend is where he wins most of the time, but his hands are very capable of being a large part of the equation.
On Thursday, Fitts saw some time with the first team.
If he is already getting time with the ones, Fitts is a guy to keep an eye on. Fangio has kept most of his defensive starters locked in, and only that outside linebacker spot and defensive end have seen several guys shifted in and out. With Danny Trevathan healing up from a hamstring injury, Kwiatkoski has filled in of course.
But, most starters have stayed with the starters. It makes sense, right? But, offensively, it’s a different story. Nagy has his guys moving all over the place. For this reason, Fitts seeing some good time with the ones is notable.
He most definitely looks the part, from what I’ve seen at camp so far. Fitts, if healthy, very well could end up being the guy opposite of Floyd. Maybe, just maybe, Ryan Pace found himself yet another gem late in the draft.
